You are here: IRC Help > Trouble #1. Port 59 (Router vs mIRC)

mIRC & Router and ... uh? port 59?? @_@

Q1-> Leecher: It keeps telling me to /dccserver +sc on 59, I did that many times, but it still doesn't work!
Q2-> FServer: Is there a way to get around port 59 so other people can access my fserve?

The reason that you get the above notice is because of firewall. Firewall protects your computer by blocking certain ports. If both FServer and Leeacher are behinde a firewall, then it's impossible to communicate (transfer files). Most routers have a firewall function, and some applications, such as mIRC, cannot work with a pure NAT router. So, here's what you need to do:

[1] Accessing your Router. You need to know your router's IP and login info. Check your user manual, if you are not sure what it is.

In your internet browser, enter your Router's IP address:
--> http://192.168.xxx.xxx
--> Enter user name and Password.

[2] Configuring your Router's Port Range:
-->
Ports that needs to be open:
-----------> Port 59: Private File Transfer port
-----------> Port 113: Ident
-----------> Port 1024 to 5000: DCC sends (for File Serving only)
--> IP Address:
this is the computer that uses mIRC, it should look something like this -> 192.168.1.xx
-----------> If you don't know your computer's IP, please go to:
-----------> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt -> Type: ipconfig

Sample 1: Port forwarding in Linksys Router:

Sample 2: Port forwarding in D-Link Router: [Special thanks to Shade :D]

Sample 3: Port forwarding in U.S.Robotics Router:

[3] Going back to mIRC Options
--> This is what you do in mIRC 6.03
:
-----------> Files -> Options -> DCC -> Options
-----------> DCC Ports: First: 1024, Last: 5000 (for File Serving only)

-->This is what you do in mIRC 6.16:
-----------> Files -> Options -> DCC -> Options
----------->Advanced... -> First: 1024, Last: 5000

[4] Turning OFF 'Firewall workaround'
--> mIRC -> SysReset -> File Server Manager -> Advanced Options -> Firewall workaround -> OFF

[5] Restart mIRC! DONE! ^__^
